How Alpiq understands sustainability

Sustainability is embedded in Alpiq's purpose and the company is well positioned – thanks to our electricity production from renewable energies and the management of renewable energies for third parties. However, we’re fully aware that further steps are needed to build a truly sustainable company. Meet Antoine, our power plant dispatcher

Antoine is a dispatcher in the control centre from which Alpiq's electricity production is monitored and controlled. He shares his office in Lausanne with ten colleagues. From here, the young energy engineer is responsible for ensuring that everything runs smoothly at Alpiq's hydroelectric power plants. Antoine and his colleagues work in shifts around the clock, 365 days a year, to ensure that the amount of energy sold is delivered.

Environmental measures bear fruit

The realisation of the Nant de Drance pumped storage power station in the municipality of Finhaut in the Valais, like any construction project, has had a certain impact on nature. Xavière Schröder, environment project manager at Alpiq, supported by Grenat Sàrl environmental bureau, is working closely with nature conservation organisations (WWF and Pro Natura) and the federal, cantonal and municipal authorities to offset these impacts and enhance local biodiversity.

“Safety was everyone's concern”

At Tormoseröd, Alpiq’s co-owned 72.6 MW wind farm in Sweden, all 11 wind turbines are in operation now. The construction of such a project not only places high technological demands. There are also a number of Health & Safety (H&S) issues that need to be considered to ensure its successful construction and commissioning.
