Lausanne – Alpiq is planning a new site north of Olten railway station and will construct a new building there, having taken over the original project of Pallas Kliniken. This step shows Alpiq’s commitment to sustainable development at an attractive location with which it has been closely connected for over 125 years. The new building will be designed to meet modern requirements for an attractive working environment, a sustainable energy concept and energy efficiency. Alpiq’s headquarters will remain in Lausanne.

On 8 October, Alpiq acquired the new construction project and plot north of Olten railway station from Pallas Kliniken. Over the coming years, Alpiq plans to construct a new building on the site that meets the complex requirements of a forward-looking energy company, while also making a significant contribution to sustainable urban and economic development of Olten.

With the new building, Alpiq intends to implement a modern energy concept and send a clear signal for energy efficiency, ecological responsibility and a better climate. For example, according to current plans, the energy supply will make use of water from the River Aare. The energy from the river water will be used for heating in winter and cooling in summer. There are also plans for a large-scale photovoltaic system to further reduce CO2 emissions and support climate targets.

Modern infrastructure fosters innovation and agility

The new building will also offer Alpiq the opportunity to create a modern working environment for its employees that promotes innovation and agility through flexible spatial concepts, open communication zones and high-performance technology. Another key factor in Alpiq’s decision to opt for the new location was its immediate proximity to Olten railway station, ensuring continued excellent access to public transport and overall connectivity.

Prompt start to construction

The existing construction project by Pallas Kliniken had already received a building permit. Taking this project as the basis, Alpiq will now develop a detailed project that is optimised to its specific needs. The aim is to start construction as soon as possible. Until the new building is completed, Alpiq will remain at its current site, which is also located next to Olten railway station. A new owner is being sought for the existing buildings.

As a leading Swiss electricity producer and energy service provider operating throughout Europe, Alpiq employs around 1,350 people from 59 nations at various sites in Europe. More than half of the employees work in Switzerland. Alpiq has its headquarters in Lausanne; more than 470 employees work in Olten.
