Lausanne – Alpiq is proud to announce a long-term partnership with the Thömus maxon Racing Teams, officially presented at today’s team launch event. The collaboration marks an important step in Alpiq’s Brand Positioning as the energy company sharpens its strategic ambition and continues its development as a high-performance, growth-driven and solution-oriented organisation. Alpiq and Thömus maxon are convinced that this partnership reflects both identities and brings the promise of “a different kind of energy” to life in a credible and forward-looking way.

The Thömus maxon Mountain Bike Racing Teams – comprising the Elite Thömus maxon Team, the Development Teams U23 Thömus Akros and the U15 Thömus Young Talents – form an ecosystem built on many of the qualities that define Alpiq: courageous action, strategic foresight, continuous innovation and a strong commitment to talent development.

At the foundation of a pyramid-shaped development pathway is the Young Talents Team. Alpiq is particularly proud that the young athletes will now, run, compete and grow under the name “Alpiq Thömus Young”. Former Mountain Bike professional and current Team Manager Ralph Näf underlines the importance of a holistic partnership approach: “For us to excel, it is crucial that we can count on strong partners who not only support the elite stars but also acknowledge the work required on the journey to world-class performance”.

A partnership built on shared commitment to success

Alpiq and Thömus maxon have been elaborating a potential partnership for several months. Both organisations quickly recognised that the benefits would be mutual. They share the understanding that excellence is achieved through discipline, courageous actions and a mindset focused on constant improvement.

At Thömus maxon, athletes progress through a system designed to cultivate talent and deliver world-class results. At Alpiq, teams follow the same philosophy: learning and growing together, empowered by a distinctive culture. It is no coincidence that these approaches lead to outstanding achievements such as Alexandra Keller’s victory at the 2025 World Championships or the development of real solutions for the Swiss power system such as the Nant de Drance power plant.

Driving transformation – on the racetrack and in the energy landscape

Cycling symbolises the transformation towards sustainable mobility. It stands for efficiency, low environmental impact and healthy movement – perfectly aligned with Alpiq’s ambition to deliver renewable, flexible and low-carbon energy solutions that ensure the electricity supply of the future. “Our engagement with the Thömus maxon Racing Teams and with mountain biking in general is an integral part of our Brand Strategy to support our growing business. It makes our vision, our beliefs and our ambition tangible for clients, partners and employees alike”, says Patric Schönberg, Head of Brand Management at Alpiq.

Both Alpiq and Thömus maxon combine Swiss engineering heritage with international ambition. With Thömus maxon competing throughout Europe and Alpiq expanding its energy-transition solutions across Europe, the partnership generates visibility and impact beyond national borders.

Expanding Alpiq’s commitment to cycling

This partnership builds on Alpiq’s existing dedication to cycling. Since 2022, Alpiq has supported selected sports projects and has been involved, among other initiatives, as a main partner of the 2025 Mountain Bike World Championships in Valais.

Alpiq’s long-term commitment to supporting the further development of the Thömus maxon Racing teams – especially with the Olympics 2028 approaching – underscores the consistency of this strategic direction and creates additional visibility in a dynamic, fast-growing environment.

For Alpiq, the partnership provides opportunities for enhanced customer experience, employee engagement, leadership development and compelling storytelling. Together, these elements bring Alpiq’s culture to life beyond the traditional energy industry.
