Bütttenen 1 & 2 small-scale hydropower plants

The Büttenen 1 & 2 run-of-river power plants, which are located in the municipality of Grellingen (canton Basel-Land) generate electricity for the equivalent of 1,200 households. The small hydropower stations were constructed in 1947 and 1949 in order to supply electricity to nearby factories. Today, the electricity they generate is fed into the national electricity grid. A fish elevator allows fish to bypass the weir in the River Birs.
