Lausanne – Johannes Teyssen, Chairman of the Alpiq’s Board of Directors since winter 2021/22, informed the Board of Directors on 26 August 2026 that he would step down from his position in the autumn this year. Following his recommendation, the Board of Directors has decided to propose Alberto de Paoli, a highly experienced Italian executive, to the Extraordinary General Meeting as his successor. Among other positions, de Paoli served as CFO of Enel, one of Europe’s largest electricity suppliers, where he played a decisive role in shaping the company’s successful development.
Johannes Teyssen highlighted Alpiq’s strong position as announced his decision to step down as Chairman: “With its consistent profitability, strong balance sheet and outstanding management under the leadership of Antje Kanngiesser, Alpiq is now well prepared to successfully implement the ambitious growth strategy adopted last year. I am convinced that, with its outstanding Swiss power plants and additional investments worth billions in new plants and commercial solutions, Alpiq is on its way, step by step, to becoming a leading provider of flexibility solutions in the European electricity markets of the future.”
The Board of Directors thanked Johannes Teyssen for his work and praised his achievements. Teyssen played a key role in shaping the company during his tenure. For example, Alpiq weathered the 2021-22 energy crisis without government aid, kept risks under control and laid the foundations for sustained economic success in the years that followed. Based on its strengthened rating and the international financial markets’ confidence in its strategic realignment, Alpiq secured long-term financing for future investments. Furthermore, the company was reorganised both operationally and structurally, leaving it well positioned for sustainable international growth. “On behalf of the management team and employees, I would also like to thank Johannes Teyssen for his tireless efforts and unwavering support in both good and difficult times,” says Antje Kanngiesser, CEO of Alpiq.
Johannes Teyssen thanked the Board of Directors and the management team for their understanding of his decision to step down this autumn: “It was a great honour for me to lead this special Swiss company and its dedicated employees through the major energy crisis and subsequent period of consolidation and into a new phase of growth. The groundwork has now been laid for the implementation of the strategy, which was updated last year. I therefore believe that this is the right time to hand over the chairmanship of the Board of Directors, especially as I have also taken over as Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Lufthansa Group in recent weeks. We are proud that Alpiq has once again been successful in presenting a leading European executive for election as chairman of the Board of Directors. Alberto de Paoli’s extensive experience in the European electricity markets makes him an ideally suited profile for this role. Alberto de Paoli (1965) has more than 30 years of international leadership and management experience in the fields of energy, finance, telecommunications and strategy. From 2014 to 2023, he was CFO of the Enel Group, one of Europe’s largest energy companies, and played a key role in its growth and strategic transformation. Before that, he held executive positions in the telecommunications sector for 15 years and, as CFO of Enel Green Power, he was responsible for its IPO. He also headed Enel’s corporate strategy. More recently, he served as General Manager of Enel’s international activities outside Italy and Spain.
The Board of Directors has decided to propose Alberto de Paoli to replace Johannes Teyssen on Alpiq’s Board of Directors. The shareholders will be invited to an Extraordinary General Meeting to vote on this proposal.
