Media release
The battery energy storage system in Valkeakoski, Finland, is Alpiq’s first BESS and therefore marks an important milestone in the expansion of its flexibility portfolio. The facility was inaugurated on 30 October 2025. It has an output of 30 MW and a storage capacity of 36 MWh. One outstanding feature is its grid-forming capability: when it was commissioned, it was the first BESS in the Nordic countries to meet these requirements, further strengthening the stability of the Finnish power system.
