BESS Cheviré

The Cheviré battery energy storage system in the Port of Nantes Saint-Nazaire, France, is one of the largest battery energy storage systems in France, with an output of 100 MW and a storage capacity of 200 MWh, and is a significant part of Alpiq’s portfolio. The facility was inaugurated in December 2025 and acquired by Alpiq in January 2026. The BESS is located on the site of the former Cheviré fossil-fuel power plant, which operated from 1954 to 1986 using coal, gas and oil, and stands as an example of the transformation of a historically impacted industrial site.
