The Senior Sustainability Manager is responsible for the hands-on delivery of the Sustainability Report, supporting sustainability within Alpiq and plays an important role in helping to track and manage the ESG risks arising from the existing or future business of Alpiq. The Sustainability Manager is responsible for coordinating the Sustainability Matrix organization and taking leadership in sustainability projects. The role reports into the Head of Compliance & Sustainability and works closely with the Sustainability Leads in the Business Divisions. Together with the experts in the business divisions and other functions you will help support the organization to anticipate, understand and manage ESG risks. The role requires a hands-on mentality to take ownership of the delivery of reports and projects.

Within your first year, you will have strengthened Alpiq’s ESG governance by delivering a reliable, compliant Sustainability Report and improving data quality across the Group. You will have established smoother cross‑functional collaboration through a well‑coordinated Sustainability Matrix organization. Your thought leadership will support embedding sustainability into business decisions, increasing transparency, regulatory readiness, and KPI ownership across divisions.

Your responsibilities
  • Deliver the annual Sustainability Report.
  • Serve as Alpiq’s sustainability subject‑matter expert for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Track evolving regulations with Legal.
  • Organise and run the Sustainability Working Group and related governance bodies.
  • Manage sustainability projects and coordinate efforts across business divisions.
  • Embed sustainability as a strategic driver and key performance area across the Group.
  • Continuously evolve the Sustainability Strategy in alignment with the Executive Board.
  • Align closely with the Sustainability Committee Chair, Executive Board, and Board of Directors.
  • Lead (dotted‑line) sustainability experts, raising awareness, providing training, and tracking compliance.
  • Monitor, implement, and report sustainability KPIs, targets, risk mitigation, and benchmarking, including value‑chain initiatives.

Your profile

  • University degree in the field of energy, environment or sustainability
  • Further education or professional experience in project and process management
  • At least 5 years’ experience in sustainability
  • Experience in development and implementation of strategies, project management as well as process management and optimization
  • Broad experience of sustainability practices and standards as well as understanding of legal and political processes
  • Business understanding and affinity for data and reporting
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Fluent in English and in either French or German
