Mission

Energy markets are being reshaped in real time – and the technology behind trading sits right at the heart of it. As IT Domain Architect for Energy Trading, you will own the architectural vision for the systems that power Alpiq’s Trading Division, and turn today’s landscape into the target landscape of tomorrow.

You will define that target together with business and IT stakeholders, then steer our applications, integrations and data towards it – making sure every solution is fit for purpose, secure by design, scalable and genuinely aligned with how our trading and risk teams work. Spanning front, middle and back office across the full trade lifecycle, this is a role with real ownership, high visibility and the mandate to shape where we go next.

Your main responsibilities

    • Define, own and continuously evolve the IT target landscape for the Trading Division – and drive the transformation that gets us there, hand in hand with business and IT.

    • Keep a clear, living view of our trading landscape – trading, position and risk management, market data, pricing, settlement and regulatory reporting – and turn the gap to target into a pragmatic, prioritised roadmap.

    • Shape solution designs across the trade lifecycle (front, middle and back office), balancing business needs, IT strategy, security, integration principles and operational reality.

    • Be the go-to architecture partner for projects, product teams, vendors and system integrators, setting clear standards and guardrails for our ETRM, risk, market-data and settlement platforms.

    • Safeguard quality where it matters most – reviewing architectural impact, risks, dependencies and technical design debt before major changes go live, with a sharp eye on data integrity, latency, resilience and auditability.

    • Help steer architecture governance, design authority reviews, roadmap planning, portfolio priorities and make-or-buy decisions for the division.

Make sure trading regulation (REMIT, EMIR, MiFID II) is designed into the landscape from the start, rather than bolted on later.

    • Champion standardisation, simplification, application reduction and modernisation – always weighing business value, security, sustainability, quality and cost.

Your impact

  • This is where our value “Create value” comes to life. The decisions you make ensure the Trading Division’s technology investments deliver real, lasting business outcomes and support Alpiq’s long-term strategic direction.

Because you define the target landscape with the business and steer us towards it, you strike the right balance between innovation and risk, ambition and operational excellence. You will be a trusted sparring partner to trading, risk and IT – the person who translates bold ambitions and regulatory demands into architecture and technology decisions that make future growth and transformation possible.

Your profile

  • We’re looking for an architect who is as comfortable with trading and risk as with technology. You likely bring:

    • A degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Financial Engineering or a related field – or equivalent hands-on experience.

    • A track record in enterprise, domain or solution architecture, ideally within energy trading, commodities or financial markets.

    • A solid grasp of the trade lifecycle and ETRM/CTRM systems (trading, position and risk management, market data, pricing, settlement and regulatory reporting) and platforms such as Murex, Endur or Orchestrade.

    • Strong solution and integration architecture skills, plus data architecture and security know-how in real-time, data-intensive environments.

    • The ability to turn business strategy, trading needs and regulation into a clear IT target landscape, solution designs and technology guardrails.

    • Experience with architecture governance, design reviews, lifecycle and technical-debt management, and confident technology decision-making.

    • Experience with Enterprise Integration Patterns (EIP), Event Driven Architectures and with data centrics platforms such as Foundry or Databricks

    • Ease working across internal delivery teams and external service providers, system integrators and platform vendors.

    • Excellent stakeholder-management, facilitation, communication and influencing skills, with a structured, analytical and business-minded approach.

Who You’ll Work With

You will sit at the crossroads of business and technology, working closely with:

  • Trading, Portfolio Management and Risk teams across front, middle and back office

  • Enterprise Architecture and the Design Authority

  • Business Relationship Managers, Product Owners and Demand Managers

  • Project Managers, Delivery Leads, Solution Architects and technical experts

  • Security, Data, Integration, Infrastructure, Operations and Service Management

  • ETRM platform vendors, system integrators and external partners

  • Portfolio, Governance, Risk, Compliance and Finance stakeholders

What Success Looks Like

  • A clear, shared IT target landscape for the Trading Division exists – and the estate is visibly moving towards it.

  • Solutions are aligned with business outcomes, enterprise architecture standards, security and regulatory requirements.

  • Architecture decisions are transparent, well-documented, their context and lineage is tracked in Architecture Desciion Records and applied consistently across projects, products and suppliers.

  • Risks, dependencies, exceptions, lifecycle impacts and technical debt are spotted and managed early.

  • Roadmaps drive modernisation, simplification, application reduction and cost optimisation.

  • Trading, risk and delivery teams receive clear, timely and practical guidance that accelerates quality delivery and business value.
