Lausanne – Alpiq’s Board of Directors has appointed Bianca Sarbu as the new Head of Business Division Energy Solutions and a member of the Executive Board. She is currently Managing Director of BKW’s Business Unit Trading and Origination and will join Alpiq in November 2026.

Following the creation of the Business Division Energy Solutions in January 2026, Alpiq has now completed the recruitment process for the new role of Head of Business Division Energy Solutions. With the appointment of Bianca Sarbu, Alpiq strengthens its Executive Board with a leader who has a strong track record in executive leadership and in building and professionalising Trading & Origination organisations across Europe. She has established efficient structures and teams that drive sustainable growth. With her collaborative approach, Bianca Sarbu has consistently aligned pricing, trading, and commercial functions to deliver operational clarity and speed. She will drive the business development of the Business Division Energy Solutions to support growth and increase its impact. “With Bianca, we have attracted an expert in scaling teams and activities across multiple European markets to achieve sustainable growth,” says Alpiq CEO Antje Kanngiesser.

Bianca Sarbu holds a PhD in Energy Studies and a Master’s degree in Comparative and International Studies, with a focus on international economics analysis (both ETH Zurich). She previously earned a Licentiate in Business Administration, as well as a parallel Licentiate in Communication Studies in Bucharest (Romania). Bianca Sarbu has worked in the Swiss energy industry for more than a decade. She joined Ompex in Zurich in 2013 as an Energy Portfolio Manager and then moved to BKW in 2016, where she held various leadership positions. Since 2024, she has served as Managing Director of BKW’s Business Unit Trading & Origination.

“Market access, flexibility alongside renewables, and risk management now define success,” says Bianca Sarbu. “I firmly believe in Alpiq’s role as a transition player and look forward to strengthening its origination and portfolio capabilities across European markets.”

Alpiq’s Business Division Energy Solutions combines the Sales and Origination activities across the European markets in which Alpiq operates. The evolving European energy landscape is creating new challenges and opportunities for customers who require secure, reliable and affordable electricity. As wind and solar generation continue to expand, customers are increasingly seeking solutions that ensure supply stability and manage the inherent variability of renewable production. To support its customers even more effectively, the company is scaling up by expanding its presence in core markets and exploring new opportunities in Western Europe, with a particular focus on structured energy products, innovative flexibility offerings such as battery energy storage systems (BESS) and demand-side solutions, as well as power purchase agreements (PPAs) and customer platforms for flexibility and intraday access.

The Business Division will continue to be led on an interim basis by CEO Antje Kanngiesser until Bianca Sarbu assumes her role in November 2026. Alpiq is confident that she will further strengthen the division’s development and contribute to the company’s long-term growth.
