The Nant de Drance pumped storage power plant in the canton of Valais has been in service since 1 July 2022. In order to unleash its full potential, complex deployment planning tools are essential. The objective is to exploit the flexibility of the power plant on the spot and intraday markets.
After 14 years of work and intensive testing, the Nant de Drance pumped storage power plant in Valais will be put into operation on 1 July 2022. Thanks to its six extremely flexible machines and a power capacity of 900 MW, Nant de Drance power plant is set to play a key role in the stabilisation of the Swiss and European electricity grids. It will also contribute towards the security of supply of electricity in Switzerland.
In April 2022, the Chairman of Alpiq’s Board of Directors spoke about important energy topics in the ‘NZZ am Sonntag’ newspaper. In the interview, Johannes Teyssen touched on topics such as energy companies’ lack of investment in power plants in recent decades. He criticised the fact that our society is living off the fruits of the labour of our mothers and fathers.
Plans are being drawn up to build Switzerland's largest photovoltaic installation above the Valais village of Gondo. Thanks to its optimal location at over 2000 metres above sea level, Gondosolar will produce around 23.3 million kilowatt-hours of electricity per year – more than half of which will be produced in the winter months. Gondosolar is a joint project by Gondo-Zwischbergen, Energie Electrique du Simplon (EES) and the project initiator, Renato Jordan.
