Novel gas-fired combined cycle power plant

The 100 MWel Novel S.p.A. plant, located in the Italian province of Novara, is the result of a cooperation between the Radici Group (49 % stake) and Alpiq (51 % stake).

The power plant provides electricity and steam to the Radici Chimica chemical plant. Alpiq Energia Italia S.p.A. sells surplus energy on the Italian market. The power plant was planned by Alpiq and constructed by STC-Atel on a turnkey basis. Alpiq Energia Italia is responsible for its operation and maintenance.

In 2009, the Novel power station introduced an environmental management system in accordance with the UNI EN ISO 14001:2004 standard. The ISO 14001: 2004 certification, which was entrusted to a nationally accredited third-party organisation, guarantees compliance with the prerequisites defined by the standard as well as their correct implementation.

On 19 December 2012, the power plant was certified by Emas (Eco-Management and Audit Scheme). Members of Emas commit to improving their environmental performance and publishing an environmental statement in which they report on their (direct and indirect) impact on the environment, their environmental performance and environmental targets.

In 2014, the power plant obtained certification in accordance with the OHSAS 18001:2007 regulation, which mandates the continual improvement of its health and safety management system.

In order to retain its certifications, Novel is subject to annual inspections to ensure that the conditions of conformity relating to its safety and environmental management systems are maintained.
