Visit hydropower plants: excursions and guided tours

Experience how we generate environmentally friendly electricity from hydropower. We offer you the opportunity to visit power plants and dams. Visit us together with your group, school class or association to find out what lies behind the power socket. Marvel at the landscape of the River Aare or at the unique alpine scenery in which our storage power plants are embedded.

Guided tours of the Ruppoldingen hydropower plant

During a guided tour of the Ruppoldingen run-of-river power plant, you can experience how, in harmony with nature, electricity is generated from hydropower.

In 2010, the power plant was awarded the coveted “naturemade star” certificate – a seal of quality for electricity generated in a particularly environmentally friendly manner. The biodiversity projects supported by the Alpiq eco-fund have created new shallow water zones, islands and floodplain woodland along the River Aare.

Sign up with your group for a free guided tour and find out more about the power plant during a 2-hour tour or discover the Aare landscape for yourself on a hike along the information trail. We also offer a special educational module for school classes.

Guided tours of the Grande Dixence storage power plant complex

Grande Dixence is located in the midst of a breath-taking landscape. But it’s not just the landscape that awes visitors. The Grand Dixence dam is Switzerland’s tallest man-made structure – 285 metres high and built with six million cubic metres of concrete. For this outstanding accomplishment, Grande Dixence was distinguished as an “International Milestone Concrete Dam Project”.

We offer visitors various guided tours. For example, you can explore the interior of the dam. The interactive guided tours engage all the senses. Experience what it feels like to have 400 million cubic metres of water around you.
