World premiere in Winznau

The world's first station control system compliant with IEC 61850 went into operation at the end of 2004 in one of Alpiq Grid's switching stations. Formerly, protection and field control devices by different manufacturers could only communicate with each other and exchange data to a very limited extent.

The new international IEC 61850 standard changed all this. In conjunction with Siemens, Alpiq launched the world's first switching station compliant with this communication standard on the grid. The new control technology enables better monitoring and remote control of the switching station, enhancing security of supply.

To make room for the new heavy goods transport centre in Erstfeld, Alpiq Grid Ltd. Gösgen had to move a pylon and raise it to around 70 meters. The far-from-routine project was carried off successfully.
