Alpiq subsidiary inaugurates overhead line test bed

For GA Hochspanning Leitungsbau GmbH (GA-HLB) of Germany, an Alpiq subsidiary, quality and safety in the workplace are top priorities. To prepare staff as realistically as possible for their duties, the company recently inaugurated a training centre with an overhead line and training section.

Unique training installation in Germany

The installation in Korbußen (Bundesland Thüringen) boast impressive dimensions: 120 metres long, 16.8-meter-high pylons and single-strand and dual-strand conductor cables with pin- and suspension-type insulators. The test section provides an ideal platform for training and for optimising work processes.

120 employees trained so far In addition to the test section, GA-HLB built a training room which opened for business in December 2010. Between 10 and 28 January 2011, the first compact training course in line installation was held. During these three weeks, more than 120 employees of GA-HLB were given instruction by in-house and external experts. In addition to training employees of GA Hochspannung Leitungsbau, the new overhead line test and training section is commercially available to other safety technology manufacturers.

No more disruption of assembly work on overhead lines Wolfgang Ritter of GA Hochspannung Leitungsbau believes the new installation offers significant advantages. "The test section means we no longer need to interrupt assembly work on overhead line projects to carry out training," says the branch manager in Korbußen. And there is also a social dimension: the training courses also give assembly technicians a unique opportunity to exchange ideas and experiences.

GA-HLB is the only company in this sector in Germany to operate an installation of this type. The maintenance and operation of this overhead line test and training section attest to the importance the Alpiq subsidiary attaches to know-how, quality and safety.
