Holger Clever to head Atel's Northern European energy business

Energy services provider Aare-Tessin Ltd. for Electricity (Atel) has appointed Holger Clever as the new head of its Northern Europe business unit, starting on 1 January 2003. He succeeds Claus-Eric Gärtner, who will be leaving the company next year.

As head of the Northern Europe business unit, Holger Clever will also be taking operational charge at Atel's German subsidiary, Atel Energie AG in Offenburg. The management team in Germany will receive further reinforcement with a second General Manager, Jörg Spicker. Atel Energie AG supplies energy and energy-related services in Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium.

Holger Clever, 43, joins Atel from the executive board of Booz Allen & Hamilton Management Consultants, where he was responsible for establishing and expanding energy business in Germany. He was formerly head of strategic planning and subsequently in charge of a procurement section at Ruhrgas AG. Clever studied at the University of St. Gallen and earned a doctorate in post-merger management at the University of Linz. He began his professional career at IBM, in sales and marketing.

Jörg Spicker was previously General Manager at Aquila Energy GmbH in Essen, where he was responsible for developing the business of supplying electricity and gas to municipal utilities and other large energy buyers in Germany. Spicker, 45, has been committee chairman of EFET Germany (European Federation of Energy Traders) since 2001. Earlier, he held various commercial and technical posts at a major gas supplier. Jörg Spicker holds a doctorate in physics.
