Nufenen

In autumn 2005 the new 380-kV high-voltage power line over the Nufenen Pass went onstream. Construction workers erected a total of 42 lattice masts along the 14-kilometer route between Ulrichen in the Upper Valais and All'Acqua in the Bedretto Valley at altitudes of between 1350 and 2450 meters asl. The cost is around CHF 34 million.
The new power line increases the security of supply in Switzerland and improves the transportation of electricity generated by alpine hydroelectric power stations. A new link has also been provided for railway operations, to ensure the smooth running of trains through the new alpine transversal tunnels. The section over the Nufenen Pass between Ulrichen and All'Acqua is part of a project to fully renovate the high-voltage line between Chamoson (VS) and Lavorgo (TI) with the aim of setting up a 380-kV through-link. The construction work is jointly financed by eight companies: Alpiq, BKW, EOS, FMV, KW Aegina, Lonza, NOK and the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB).
