Modern information and communication technologies play a fundamental role in the activities of Alpiq, and we therefore consider privacy an important issue. We respect your right to privacy when you interact with us through services on our Website. We would therefore like to inform you about the data we collect and how any data you may send via this Website is treated, and to explain the precautions we take to protect your personal data. This privacy policy covers the online collection of personal data for the purpose of communication between Alpiq and visitors to its Website.

We reserve the right to amend this privacy statement at any time. Please make sure that you regularly read the latest version of this policy. The "Last update" paragraph indicates when the last update was made.

Data Collection and Purpose of Use

Whenever you visit our Website, our server logs the connecting IP address and, among other things, information about your browser ("Connection Data"). This Data registers the communication between you and Alpiq. These Data are used for statistical purposes and internal measures to enhance quality of service. Cookies are also used (see below).

When you visit our Website you have the option of sending us personal details such as your name, address, user name, password etc. ("Personal Data"). Personal Data are transferred by filling in the online form. Whenever we process Personal Data, we inform you about the type of information we collect and how we use it on the same page on which you enter your Personal Data. You can also see which data is mandatory in order to provide the service you require, and which data is optional. The mandatory data is marked with an asterisk.


Cookies or other methods can be used to track site usage in order to improve the quality of our services and achieve a better understanding of how visitors use our Website. Alpiq uses sharing plugins such as the Facebook "Like" button on news-related web pages. In this context we would like to inform you that web pages with integrated social plugins of this type automatically register data about the website user.

Disclosure and Information Sharing

With the following exceptions, your Personal Data are not disclosed to third parties without your express consent:

  • Your Personal Data may be forwarded and stored within the Alpiq Group. Alpiq operates branches in Switzerland, various countries in the European Economic Area and a small number of other countries.

  • Your Personal Data may be forwarded to service providers that provide support for our Website or otherwise support our business activities. These service providers process your Personal Data exclusively according to our instructions and are contractually bound to observe data confidentiality.

  • Your Personal Data may be disclosed to state or judicial authorities if required by law or other regulation.

  • Your Personal Data may be disclosed at Alpiq's discretion if this is deemed necessary in order to protect the interests of Alpiq, its users or the general public.

  • Forwarding of personal data by social plugins (e.g. Facebook "Like" button, see above "Sharing Plugins").

Data Security and Confidentiality

Data transmission to our servers over the Internet is not encrypted by default. Personal Data is transmitted over an open network which is accessible to anyone. We cannot guarantee the protection of Personal Data transmitted via such open networks. Alpiq accepts no liability for direct or indirect loss or damage resulting from data transmission between Website visitors and Alpiq.

We have, however, implemented security policies, rules and technical measures to protect Personal Data stored and processed at our facilities against unauthorised access, improper use or disclosure, unauthorised modification, unlawful destruction and accidental loss. These security measures guarantee the authenticity of our Website, the integrity of the data and the confidentiality of data transmitted over our private network (intranet).

Access to Personal Data is restricted to those of our employees who require such information in order to respond to queries and provide the services requested. All our employees are under an obligation to respect the confidentiality of Personal Data.

Data Retention

In accordance with the applicable data protection laws, Personal Data is kept only as long as needed for the designated purposes.

User Rights

You have the right to remain informed and are entitled to request that your Personal Data be amended or deleted. Upon your request by e-mail to webmaster@alpiq.com, we will provide you with a readable copy of your Personal Data within 30 days, free of charge. For security reasons, we may take appropriate measures to authenticate your identity.
