Electricity grids for electricity transmission

The merger of Atel and EOS created Alpiq, which includes the two grid businesses belonging to those two companies, Alpiq Grid Ltd. Gösgen and Alpiq Grid Ltd. Lausanne. Within the Alpiq Group, these two firms specialise in grids. They build and operate their own high-voltage grids in Switzerland and offer grid services to third parties.
Electrical energy depends on a grid. There has to be a line between power stations and consumers. Both companies specialise in all aspects of electricity transmission in Switzerland and connections to neighbouring countries.
Together, Alpiq Grid Ltd. Gösgen and Alpiq Grid Ltd. Lausanne operate Alpiq’s high-voltage grid ranging from 220 to 380 kV, including substations, switching stations, grid management and telemetry installations. The two companies operate around one third of Switzerland’s high-voltage grid. The entire grid is controlled centrally from Olten and Lausanne using a state-of-the-art control system. Alpiq Grid Ltd. Gösgen operates facilities at Olten, Gösgen, Altdorf and Bodio and has around 100 employees.
Alpiq Grid Ltd. Lausanne operates facilities at Lausanne, Martigny and Orbe and also has around 100 employees.
