Like many other companies, Alpiq is not just an economic player. It also has a social role, creating employment, maintaining important economic activities in sometimes remote areas and of course ensuring a reliable, sustainable and competitive supply of electricity to a large part of Switzerland.

A few examples:

• We support projects and initiatives related to our activities, in particular in the fields of energy efficiency, renewable energies and large electrical power stations.

• We support energy-themed events such as the Energy Film Festival (March/April 2009) and Green Power Marketing (October 2009).

• We support sporting and cultural initiatives in various regions. A few examples: Zlín Municipal Theatre (Czech Republic), Csepel Wrestling Club (Hungary) and light art by Chiara Dynys (Italy).

• Our social commitments also extend to promoting the 'Equal Pay Day' organised by Business Professional Women and the KISS Association of Solothurn, and an Internet platform to help parents find day-care facilities for their children.
