Alpiq in: Europe

Quality and safety first and foremost

Quality management and safety in the workplace are top priorities at Alpiq. We take great care to provide state-of-the-art facilities and ensure that they are kept in top working condition. This way we protect the population, our own employees, the environment and we are able to communicate our performances to all authorities.

It is our goal to make sure that our plants function reliably at all times. After all, our customers depend on us and on our facilities. Our conventional thermal power plants in Italy, Hungary and the Czech Republic boast the use of state-of-the-art technology and comply with rigorous workplace safety and environmental standards.

Awards for high safety standards

Our combined cycle gas-fired power station in Csepel near Budapest and our coal-fired power plant in Zlin are certified in accordance with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001. The Csepel power station also holds the ISO 28001 certification. Csepel and the Kladno coal-fired power plant have won several awards from the British Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) for their high workplace safety and accident prevention standards. Alpiq Csepeli Erőmű Kft. won its 12th RoSPA Award this year, while Alpiq Csepeli Szolgáltató Kft. received its 11th award. Added to this, all three power plants in Central/Eastern Europe operate a safety and health protection system and are OHSAS 18001 certified. The Gösgen nuclear power plant also has a certificate for its quality management system.

In Italy, our thermal power plant Novel, located near Novara, has obtained ISO 14001:2004 certification since 2010 and it is waiting for the Emas registration. With this certification, Novel declares to all citizens and autorithies its commitment in a continuous improvement of health, security and environmental performances. Furthermore, for the hydro power plants Riva Valdobbia and Alagna Valsesia, located near Vercelli, and the thermal power plant En Plus in San Severo, near Foggia, the process to obtain the quality certification UNI EN ISO 14001 and Emas registration has already started.

Quality from which everyone benefits

The list of our achievements and awards for consistent quality management is long. To name but a few:

  • In Switzerland, all of our large run-of-river plants are TÜV Süd certified, confirming their excellent energy efficiency, with Ruppoldingen being also Naturemade Star certified, the highest quality mark for ecologically produced electricity. Our storage power plants are also TÜV Süd certified, with Grande Dixence Powerplants, Engadiner Kraftwerke and Hinterrhein being certified by Naturemade (Naturemade Basic), the quality mark for energy from renewable sources.

  • Thanks to targeted training and an established safety culture, for eleven consecutive years not a single employee at Alpiq Csepel has been injured in a work-related accident.

  • The quality management system operated by Alpiq Generation (CZ) in Kladno was awarded the Gold Certificate in 2005.

  • Alpiq Generation (CZ), which operates 2 Alpiq power plants in the Czech Republic, won several prizes in 2005, including awards for workplace health, environmental management and accident prevention.
